Narukogawa River flowing in this park has a legend that has a lot to do with the establishment of Wakiidenomiya shrine. In Emperor Shoumu's reign, a giant serpent appeared in Narukogawa river, and devastated the surrounding fields. Brave local warriors severed the serpent’s head, which then flew across the Kizugawa River and landed near the present site of Hosono Shrine. That's why Hosono shrine and Wakiidenomiya were established.
